Canon
India together
with the Venu Eye Institute participated in Eye Donation fortnight which
is being observed from 25th August to 8th September, 2009.
Canon launched iCare as its core CSR project
in the area of eye care prevention and rehabilitation in the year 2008. This Eye
Donation Fortnight is conducted under the same project. At the event Mr. Alok
Bharadwaj, Senior Vice President Canon
India commented,
“We take pride in our association with Venu and whole heartedly support the
cause of eye donation. Children are the pivot for any transformation of family
mind set. Over this fortnight our objective was to eradicate misunderstandings
about Eye Donation in
India
and educate children, hence their parents about this cause. We are overwhelmed
to see the enthusiastic participation from various schools and several children.
We hope that this initiative sees success in the near future and motivates more
and more people to join us in providing vision to the visually impaired.”
Venu and
Canon CSR volunteers with its strong network of schools reached out to students
of leading schools with an objective to promote Eye Donation and influence them
to approach the family of deceased to donate eyes. Under this campaign, Venu and
Canon had organized an inter school painting and slogan writing competition to
create a connect and generate interest among the students in such activities.
This competition was judged by renowned cartoonist Mr. Sudhir Tailang. Winners
of these competition will be felicitated by famous cricketer Masoor Ali Khan,
Nawab of Pataudi and Alok Bhardawaj Sr. Vice President Canon India, in an event
held at Venu Eye Institute on 8th September 2009. This event will
bring together the families of doners and recipients to share their inspiring
stories. Families of the winners will also be invited at the event at Venu
wherein they would get a chance to interact with the donors who can eradicate
myths about eye donation. This campaign is an attempt to eliminate the cultural
and perceptional myths about eye donation and to motivate more people to join
the cause.
