Acer increases its long
track record of successes and leadership within the PC industry by achieving a
historical result during Q3 2008. According to the worldwide market data
released by analyst firm IDC, Acer reached the first position in the EMEA
(Europe, Middle East, Africa) PC market (desk-based PC and mobile-PCs) for the
very first time.
Acer
accounted
for 21.3% of all shipments in the EMEA region recording a gap of more than 2.6%
from the second place-ranking vendor. According to IDC data, PC shipments in
EMEA totaled over 27.8 million units in Q3 2008, with a 27% increase
year-on-year (YOY). IDC's preliminary results show Acer's extraordinary
performance in the EMEA market with a YOY growth of 90.2%.
The EMEA PC market
performance was driven by strong demand on notebook solutions; in addition, the
introduction of the new Mini Notebook line up (netbook) line up produced
significant movements in the top 5 vendor positions.
Gianfranco Lanci, CEO and President, Acer, said,”
Globally, the PC market growth is driven by end-users' demand for mobile
products and mobility has always been Acer's focus .The results we have achieved
is wide-ranging of all Acer Group brands we offer in EMEA -- Acer, Packard Bell
and eMachines -- and confirm that not only have R&D and marketing investments
provided us with a solid base for growth, but also that the Multi-Brand Strategy
is tactical both in terms of business and market positioning and this result
confirms the accomplishment of it.
The different companies
integrate their own unique experience and abilities to offer a broad range of
products that allow customers to find the right solutions for their uniquely
personal needs and ensures we are ready to face any difficulties that may arise.
Acer's exponential growth is a combination of an increase in brand awareness,
consistency of our channel-based business model and fresh technology in all our
products”, Lanci added.
"The last year has been
crucial to us. We have managed an internal and significant change that has
brought new strength to the company as a whole," explains Walter Deppeler,
Senior Corporate Vice President, Acer Group. "The results achieved in EMEA are
eloquent: we are market leaders in 10 different countries for the total PC
market (based on IDC's Q308 preliminary data), and for
the
Notebook
segment we are the top vendor in 16 countries. We are also pleased to record
outstanding market share in Italy, Czech Republic, Spain, Holland, Russia,
Denmark, France, Germany and many other countries in the region."
Acer's strong focus on mobile products and mobility
enabled the company to act promptly in the Mini Notebook segment with the launch
of the Aspire One and this lead to a robust growth in the EMEA market. It will
be a challenge to match or beat the market expansion Acer has attained so far
thanks to the introduction of its popular netbook. As a final point, IDC
confirms that Acer also continues to gain share in the desktop space.
